Staycationing in Valentia Island, Co. Kerry 2

 

On the first morning, we had breakfast

using a jam we had bought at a supermarket.

It's named after Skellig Michael

the Unesco World Heritage Site

where some of the Star Wars series films were shot.

Nobody can go there now due to Covid-19.

朝食には前日に購入した

ジャムを使った。

すぐ近くにあるユネスコ世界遺産である

スケリッグ・マイケルに

ちなんだ名前がついている。

ここはスターウォーズの映画のいくつかが

撮影されたことでも有名だ。

普段ならものすごい数の観光客で

溢れているが、

今はコロナ禍のせいで行くことができない。

We went to see 385 million years old

footprints of one of the first 4 legged animals in the world

(fish which had just developed legs).

It's called "Tetrapod Trackway".

３億八万５千年前の

世界最古の4つ足動物の足跡を見に行った。

魚から足が出たみたい感じの

サンショウウオみたいな生き物で

長さは１メートルくらいのものらしい。

Then we went to see the lighthouse.

それから灯台を見に行った。

After lunch we drove to the mainland 

and went to see the ruins of

Ballycarbery Castle.

This was originally built in the 14th century.

昼食後に本土に行き、

14世紀に建てられたという

Ballycarbery Castle の廃墟を見た

It was pouring rain and I felt a bit miserable....

この時は土砂降りでちょっと悲しかった...。

As we could not go to France for summer,
we decided to go to Kerry, south west of Ireland.

This is the most popular holiday destination in Ireland,

so we weren't able to book any accommodation in summer.

Until now.

毎年夏休みはだいたいフランスに行くのだが、

今年はコロナ禍で海外旅行に行けないので

アイルランド南西のケリー県に行くことにした。

しかしアイルランドで1番人気のある旅行先なので

夏の間中は宿を取ることができなかった。

しかし、学校が始まった今の時期になって

やっと予約が取れた。

We met a family with 3 Japanese spitzes 

in one of the motor way service stations.

道中で寄った高速のサービスエリアで

日本スピッツを3匹連れた家族連れに出くわした！

The baby boy of the family called "Bruce"!

(The other 2 spitzes are in the car.)

末っ子のブルース君！

（残りの2匹は車の中。）

The had one Japanese spitz, and when they heard

a female spitz was abandoned by a breeder

as the breeder thought the dog couldn't have any more babies,

they decided to adopt her.

However, the female spitz was pregnant!

She had 3 babies.

The family kept one boy (Bruce) and

gave away the 2 others.

お話を聞いてみると

この方々は元々スピッツを飼っておられたのだが、

あるスピッツブリーダーが

子供が産めなくなった（と思った）メスを

捨てようとしているのを聞きつけ

引き取ったそうだ。

その時実はそのメスのスピッツは妊娠していて

ある朝3匹の可愛い赤ちゃんを見つけて

びっくりしたそうだ。

結局男の子のスピッツ（ブルース君）を残し、

他の2匹は養子に出したそうだ。

Day Trip to County Carlow

 

We drove to County Carlow to see

Duckett's Grove on a whim.

ふと思い立ってカーロウ県の

Duckett's Grove の廃墟を見に行くことにした。

Its walled garden allows dogs on a lead.

(Most walled gardens don't!)

ここの庭園はリードをつけていれば

犬も一緒に入れるありがたい庭園だ。

Shiro found an apple on the ground

of the walled garden 😅

シローは庭園内の果樹園で

落ちているりんごを発見 😅

After that we briefly visited

Harlodstown Dolmen.

この後、Harlodstown Dolmen

に寄って見た。

We also drove to a couple of churches

to see my husband's ancestors' graves.

また、夫の先祖のお墓にお参りするために

教会をいくつか回った。

I think Carlow is underestimated.

カーロウ県はいい所なのに見過ごされていると

私は思う。

While we were out for a walk in Clanmore Park,

we encountered a cute little Japanese spitz girl called

"Bella".

Staycation in Limerick

 

As we cannot go abroad for holiday at the moment,

we decided to have a short holiday in 

one of the dog friendly hotels we had stayed before in Limerick.

Unfortunately, we did not book early enough

to stay in the same nice room we had used,

but we had a lovely holiday.

海外旅行ができないので、

以前に泊まったことのあるリメリックの

犬も泊まれるホテルに3泊4日で出かけた。

予約するのがちょっと遅かったので、

前回泊まった素敵な部屋には泊まれなかったが、

楽しい旅行になった。

It was also a wedding anniversary celebration 

holiday as well.

結婚記念日のお祝い旅行も兼ねていた。

We were very lucky with the weather.

お天気にも恵まれた。

I would like to visit the hotel again,

as the restaurant is absolutely fabulous!

レストランの食事もとても美味しいので、

またこのホテルに泊まりに来たい！
