Staycationing in Valentia Island, Co. Kerry 8

 

On the last morning of this holiday,

we went out for a walk.

We saw a donkey.

この休暇の最終日の朝、

帰路の前にちょっと散歩して

ロバを見に行った。

We tidied the accommodation,

packed our staff in the car,

and left for Dublin.

宿を清掃し、

荷物を車に積んで、

ダブリンに出発する準備が完了した。

"Are we going home now?"

「もう帰るの？」

On the way, we went to Caragh Lake,

for picnic lunch.

途中で Caragh Lake に寄って

ピクニックランチを食べた。

 We climbed the hill there for

my husband's Geocaching in the pouring rain 😢

夫のジオキャッシングに付き合って

土砂降りの中丘に登った 😢

It was an 8 hour drive--

as we had to stop to satisfy

the doggies needs--,

but we arrived home safely.

犬休憩も含めて

足掛け8時間の長いドライブ

だったが無事に家に到着。

We set out to do a loop walk 

on Bray Head this morning.

After we arrived and paid a €2 car park fee,

we saw a sigh that said dogs are not allowed there!

Also, some of the surface did not look

suitable for our doggie buggy.

今朝は Bray Head のループウォーク

をするつもりで出かけた。

駐車場に到着して駐車料金を

支払ってから色々注意書きを読んでいると

「犬は入れません」と書かれているのを発見！

その上、ドギー用バギーも

使うのが大変そうな道である。

We changed our plan.

計画を変更した。

And went to the chocolate factory

we had planned to go a few times and didn't go.

何度か行こうとしたがその度に

計画を変更して行かなかった

チョコレート工場に行くことにした。

We had to wait a bit outside

because of the social distancing issue,

but we had a lovely chat with one of the staffs

while she was offering us 

some free chocolate to taste.

ソーシャルディスタンスのため、

入り口で少し待たなければならなかったが、

中に入ってしまうと

チョコレートの試食等で楽しかった。

スタッフの一人が

Bray Head について色々教えてくれた。

We bought some chocolate for souvenir.

お土産用にチョコレートも購入。

We went back to Ballinskelligs Beach again.

その後、Ballinskelligs ビーチに行った。

Then we drove to the nearest town,

Waterville.

そして近くにある海辺の町、

ウォータービルに行ってみた。

There is a statue of Charlie Chaplin,

because he used to come to this town on holiday

for 10 years in a row every year.

チャーリー・チャップリンの銅像がある。

イギリス人ではあったが、

ある時期10年間毎年休暇のため

この街に一家でやって来た時期が

あったそうだ。

There is also a Charlie Chaplin film festival

every year

(this year it happened online).

毎年チャップリン映画祭が開催されるそうだ。

（今年はコロナ禍のためオンラインで開催。）

Went to a supermarket in Cahersiveen,

got a ferry back to Knightstown,

had lunch at the accommodation,

and left for Bray Head again,

leaving the doggies at the accommomdation

this time.

カアーサイビーンのスーパーに

寄ってからフェリーでナイツタウンに戻り、

宿で昼食を取ってから

今度は犬達を留守番させて

再び Bray Head に向かった。

It took us about 2 hours to complete the 5km loop

as we went off the loop

so that my husband could do Geocaching.

5km のループを歩き終えるのに

約 2 時間かかった。

夫のジオキャッシングのため、

ループ以外のところも歩いたからだ。

We drove straight back to the doggies after the walk.

その後はすぐに犬達のところに戻った。

A cake whichwe had bought 

in Petit Delice, a nice bakery in Cahersiveen.

美味しいベーカリーで買ったケーキ。

We own an identical plate....

これと全く同じお皿を所有している...。

Today was the last full day for this holiday.

We had a great time, great weather!

今日がこの休暇の最終日で

明日はダブリンに帰る。

とても楽しい最終日になった！

In the morning, my husband went out

canoeing at Knightstown Harbour,

visiting nearby islands.

The doggies and I stayed in the accommodation

and relaxed.

午前中、夫はナイツタウンの

波止場からカヌーで周辺の

島々を訪れた。

犬達と私はその間

宿でのんびり過ごした。

In the afternoon, we visited Geokaun Mountain.

午後はまず Geokaun Mountain に行った。

月曜日に見に行った灯台。

After this we went back near St. Brendan's well

as my husband wanted to go to St. Finian's Bay 

to do Geocaching.

その後、夫のジオキャッシングのため、

水曜日に来た聖ブレンダンの井戸の

近くに再びやって来た。

This is where you can find "O'Shea's Pub", 

a pub made famous by a Guinness advertisement

about 15 years ago.

Sadly, this pub has been closed.

ここに15年ほど前、

アイルランドでギネスビールの

TVコマーシャルに使われた

「O'Shea's Pub」が

あったところである。

最も辺鄙な所にある

パブとして有名になった。

残念ながらずいぶん前に

閉鎖されてしまった。

Culoo Cliffs.

Today I bought a lovely mug at

Mr Gunter Treffkorn's

pottery studio in Cahersiveen.

I really love it.

Tea tastes so nice.

今日、カアーサイビーンの

陶器ショップで

手作りのマグを購入した。

ずっといいマグが欲しかったので

気に入ったのが見つかって

とっても嬉しい。

Gunter Treffkornさんという

ドイツ人の陶芸家である。

We drove towards 
Skellig Chocolate Factory (again).

On our way, we stopped at a viewing point.

今日も（再び）

Skellig チョコレートファクトリーに
行くことにした。

途中で景色のいいところで止まって

写真撮影。

 We kept driving to the chocolate factory, 

but abandoned the plan (again)

as we saw a sign to 

"St Fionán’s Holy Well"

引き続いてチョコレートファクトリーに

向かって車を進めたが、

（再び）プランを変更して

聖フィニアンの井戸を見に行くことにした。

Then we decided to drive to Derrynane Garden (again).

But after seeing the sign "McCarthy's Castle",

we got curious and stopped to see it.

デリーナン・ハウスに（再び）行くことにし、

そちらに向かっている時に

「マッカーシーの城」という表示を見つけ、

（再び）プランを変更してそこに行って見た。

Its real name is Ballinskelligs Castle.

Ballinskelligs Abbey nearby.

近くにある Ballinskelligs Abbey。

We saw a friendly dog 💕

人懐こいワンちゃんにも遭遇💕

Another distraction before going to Derrynane Garden was

St. Michael's Well.

Kerry has a lot of wells, which we didn't know.

デリーナン・ハウスに行く前の

最後の寄り道は

聖マイケルの井戸。

ケリーには聖なる井戸がたくさんある。

We were starving by this point, 

so we went straight to Derrynane Garden

and had our picnic lunch there.

And then went for a short walk.

この時点でかなりお腹が空いたので、

デリーナン・ハウスに

一直線に向かい、

そこでピクニックのランチを取った。

　その後はそこのお庭を少し散歩した。

On our way home,

we went to a bakery in Cahersiveen

and bought some pastries for

tomorrow's breakfast.

They also had nice looking cakes.

帰路の途中でカアーサイビーンの

美味しいと評判のベイカリーに

寄って明日の朝食用の

クロワッサン等を購入した。

美味しそうなケーキも売ってた。

For dinner, we ate out at 

The Moorings Restaurant in Portmagee.

The food was delicious.

(Especially the cram chowder and

the brown bread.)

夕食はポートマギーの

The Moorings Restaurantに行った。

中々美味しかった。

（クラムチャウダーと

ブラウンブレッドが特に。）

Just before going out for dinner,

my husband decided to play with his drone (unwise).

He flew it too high so the drone lost its

connection with the remote control

and drifted away because of strong wind.

He chased it and miraculously recovered it.

But we were late for the dinner appointment (a bit)....

夕食に出かける直前に

何故か夫が愚かにも

ドローンで遊び始めた。

ドローンをあまりにも高く飛ばしすぎて

ドローンをコントロールできなくなり、

そのまま風に流されて

どんどん遠くへ飛んで行ってしまった。

大慌てで追いかけてなんとか

取り戻して帰って来た（苦笑）。

Another gray day--
not just gray, but very foggy!

We drove towards 

Skellig Chocolate Factory,

but abandoned the plan 

as it was too foggy to keep driving.

また、朝から曇天であった。

それだけじゃなくものすごい霧であった。

Skellig チョコレートファクトリーに

行こうとしたがあまりの濃霧で

途中で引き返した。

We drove backwards to the bridge

between Portmagee (mainland) and Valentia,

and visited Skellig Michael Experience Centre instead.

The doggies were allowed inside 👍😊

お天気も良くないし、

室内の展示が見れる

Skellig Michael Experience Centre に行ってみた。

犬達も一緒に入ることができた👍😊

It was very interesting to learn about

the history of Skellig Michael.

I'd like to visit the island

and see the site one day.

過去の聖人が篭った場所や

作ったものは非常に興味深かった。

いつかスケリッグ・マイケルに行ってみたい。

Then we visited St. Brendan's Well.

それから聖ブレンダンの井戸を見に行った。

Then we went back to Knightstown,

and had lunch at The Coffee Dock.

The food was good!

それからナイツタウンに戻り

The Coffee Dock というカフェで

昼食を取った。

なかなか美味しかった。

After lunch, my husband had to

join a Zoom meeting for work,

and I had to do a small translation work, too.

昼食後は

夫は仕事関係でズーム会議に参加し、

私も簡単な翻訳の仕事をこなした。

And we had some time before dinner time,

so we drove to Slate Quarry

and saw the grotto there.

仕事の後は夕食まで時間があったので

粘板岩の採石場に行き、

聖母マリアの祭壇（英語ではgrotto）を

見に行った。

Slates from here are used for

the Houses of Parliament at Westminster.

ここの粘板岩は

ウェストミンスター宮殿に

使われているそうだ。

And finally we visited 2 different forts--

Cahergal and Leacanabuaile.

They are about 1000 years old.

それから 2 つの砦

（Cahergal と Leacanabuaile）

を見に行った。

これらは1000年くらい前に

作られたそうだ。

We saw a lot of things today

even though we both had to work.

2人とも仕事しなきゃならなかった

のにも関わらず、

結構色々見た。
