Summer Holiday in France 2023 Day 15

 

1st day with no dog in our family

in 16 and a half years.

1st day with no animal in our family

in probably 26 years.

(We always had guinea pigs

or a rabbit.)

16年半で犬が家族ではない

最初の朝を迎えた。

おそらく動物が家族にいないのは

26年ぶりくらいかもしれない。

（私たちは犬の前にモルモットや

うさぎを飼っていた。）

First we drove to the vet in Bricquebec 

to sign some documents

and pay for Miffy's cremation.

We will collect Miffy

when she's ready.

まず、ブリットベックの獣医に行き、

色々な書類に署名をし、

ミッフィーを火葬してもらう

ための手続きと費用の支払いをした。

遺灰は後日

私たちが再びフランスに

迎えに来るつもりだ。

Then we drove on to Valognes,

a town known as the "Versailles of Normandy" 

for its aristocratic mansions and palaces

その後、「ノルマンディーのベルサイユ」

という異名を持つヴァローニュ

という街に行った。

As the nickname suggests,

there are a lot of historical buildings.

名前の通り、

貴族や歴史に関連した

建物ば多くあった。

I only took this photo, though--

the court house.

でも、写真を撮ったのは

１枚だけ--裁判所。

Had lunch at Le Versailles Normand.

The owner of the restaurant

has a little corgi called "Oscar".

He was very friendly.

レストランで昼食を取った。

レストランには「オスカー君」

というマスコット犬がいて癒された。

After that, my husband went on

the rental bike to do Geocaching.

その後、夫は再び自転車で

ジオキャッシングに出かけた。

I had no Miffy to look after,

but I stayed in.

ミッフィーはもういないが、

私は宿に残った。

We were so lucky to have Miffy.

She was a super spitz.

I'm sorry, Miffy, we couldn't detect

your health problem early.

You were putting up a

brave face for us.

I miss you.

ミッフィーが我が家に来てくれて

私たちは本当に幸運であった。

病気を早く見つけてあげられなくて

本当にごめんね。

私たちには身体の不調を隠して

普通に接してくれてたんだね。

大好きだよ、ミッフィー。

Summer Holiday in France 2023 Day 14

The weather was incredibly good.

Sunny and hot.

We went to Portbail without Miffy.

I wanted to take photos of the church

and its reflection in the water.

ミッフィーをお留守番させ、

ポールバイユまで出掛けた。

教会が水に反射している

写真を撮りたかったからだ。

There is another church.

教会がもう1つある。

The monument for 

the Second World War's

bombings.

第二次大戦で受けた爆撃

の記念碑。

There was a shop which sells

"Koi Nobori".

なぜか鯉のぼりを

売っている店があった。

After lunch,

my husband went out with the bike

to do Geocaching.

I stayed in, looking after Miffy

and doing Pilates.

帰宅後、昼食を取り、

夫は例によって自転車で

ジオキャッシングをし、

私は宿に残って

ミッフィーの世話と

ピラティスをした。

We were scheduled to visit

the vet again, because

they wanted to check how Miffy was doing.

午後は獣医に行くことになっていた。

ミッフィーの様子を報告するためだ。

I wasn't quite ready to let her go.
I wanted to take her back to Ireland

私はまだ安楽死させたくなかった。

アイルランドに連れて帰りたかった。

We told the male vet of our decision,

and left the vet.

But Miffy looked very weak.

So I realised this might be a mistake.

そのことを獣医に告げ、

家路についたが

ミッフィーはとても弱々しかった。

私は間違っているのではないかと

考え始めた。

My husband went back to the vet

to tell him we had decided 

to let her go after the weekend.

夫が獣医に戻り

週末明けに

ミッフィーを安楽死させる

決意をしたことを告げに行った。

While I was waiting,

I noticed Miffy was unconscious in the buggy.

夫を待っている間、

私はミッフィーの意識が

ないことに気づいた。

We knew she wouldn't wake up.

We didn't have to make the decision.

She made that decision for us.

What a kind dog....

ミッフィーの意識が

戻らないことは明らかだった。

決意を渋っている私たちに

ミッフィーの方から決めてくれたのだ。

優しい、優しい、ミッフィー。

Good Bye Miffy

 
Miffy has decided to move on from France

to heaven, instead of to Ireland.

ミッフィーはフランスから

虹の橋を渡ってしまった。

I love you.

You were such a great dog, Miffy.

I can't believe I can't see you again.

Summer Holiday in France 2023 Day 13

  

Miffy has stopped eating more or less.

She was eating mashed sweet potatoes,

but she now refuses that as well.

At night, she spends a lot of time

barking & crying.

ミッフィーはほとんど

物を食べないようになってしまった。

蒸して潰した

さつまいもだけは

喜んで食べてくれていたのに。

夜も何度も何度も

泣くのでその度に夫と二人で

様子を見に行っている。

We now think she may not

survive until we arrive home.

We looked into going back to Ireland earlier,

but all the pet friendly cabins are booked out

until our departure date.

このままではミッフィーは

アイルランドに戻るまでに

虹の橋を渡ってしまうかもしれない、

という残酷な現実に直面している。

フェリーのスケジュールをチェックし、

早めにアイルランドに戻ることも

検討してみたが、

ペットOKの客室は全部予約が入っている。

We brought her to our local vet again.

This time a lovely kind female vet

who speaks excellent English saw Miffy.

地元の獣医に

ミッフィーを再び連れて行った。

英語の上手な優しい女医さんが

ミッフィーを診察してくれた。

Miffy got 3 injections💉:

cortisone, antibiotics, and 

one for stopping nausea.

The vet told us we have to

make up our mind

if Miffy doesn't eat for the

next 24 hours.

ミッフィーは注射💉を三本してもらった。

痛み止め、抗生物質、そして吐き気止め。

そして、この後24時間で

ミッフィーの食欲が戻らなければ、

安楽死を考えるように言われた。

She was fine 2 weeks ago 

when we left Ireland.

Eating well, and walking well....

2週間前に

アイルランドを出発した時は

あんなに元気だったのに。

食欲旺盛で、散歩も行ってたし...。

I let my husband cycle around

to do Geocaching after the vet visit.

He had rented a bike for this purpose,

and I didn't mind staying in with Miffy.

獣医から帰った後は、

夫はレンタルした自転車で

ジオキャッシングに出かけた。

私は宿にミッフィーと残った。

For lunch,

we went out for a picnic with Miffy.

My husband had bought

2 sandwiches at the bakery.

昼食には夫がベーカリーで

買ったサンドウィッチを持って

ミッフィーを連れて

ピクニックに出かけた。

 

We could see Jersey from

the picnic area.

ピクニックの場所からは

海の向こうのジャージー島が見える。

When we arrived home, the vet in Dublin

called my husband about Miffy.

She's very kind and considerate.

帰宅したら

ダブリンの獣医から夫宛に

ミッフィーのことで電話があった。

非常に思いやりのある獣医で

ありがたい。

Then my husband went out to 

have a hair cut.

I stayed in.

昼食後、

夫は髪を切りに行き、

私は宿に残った。

For dinner,

we went to Terminus.

Initially we were thinking of

taking away the food with us,

but in the end

we ate there.

夕食には

テルミナスという

フードコートのような

ところに行った。

お持ち帰りにするつもりだったが、

結局そこで食べた。

This beeps when the food is ready.

オーダーした食べ物ができると

音がする。

Today's dessert is Petit Normand.

It was very very nice.

今日のデザートはプチ・ノルマン。

とってもとってもおいしかった。

At the sunset.

サンセットの光を浴びて。

There was a cat in our garden.

It looked really like Miffy 

in the distance.

I was briefly excited as

I thought Miffy was sitting up happily.

庭に見慣れない猫がいた。

遠くから見ると

ミッフィーみたいでびっくり。

最初見た時、

「ミッフィーが元気になった！」と

一瞬喜んでしまった。

Summer Holiday in France 2023 Day 12

 

In the morning,

we went on a drive to Lessay

to see an old Abbey.

It was a brief outing

as we left Miffy resting at home.

午前中は

レセという街までドライブし

11世紀に建てられた

教会を見に行った。

ミッフィーはお留守番だったので

教会を見ただけで帰宅した。

Almost everything was closed

in this town and it was very quiet.

Most shop owners are

on holiday in September,

after summer.

この街のほとんどの店は

閉まっていてすごく静かだった。

忙しい夏が終わり、

皆9月に休暇を取るようだ。

After lunch,

my husband went on a cycling tour,

and I stayed home with Miffy.

昼食後、

夫はレンタルした自転車で

出かけた。

私はミッフィーと宿に残った。

I contacted our vet in Dublin

to make an appointment so that

we can take Miffy there

immediately after we arrive in Ireland.

今日ダブリンの獣医に連絡し、

事情を説明して

我々がアイルランドに着いたら

そのまま診察してもらえるよう

予約を入れた。

We haven't been eating out so much

on this holiday,

so we started investigating 

the restaurant situations near our house.

今回の旅行では

ほとんど外食していないので、

宿の近くのレストランについて

色々調査することにした。

Basically, there isn't

a decent restaurant nearby.

We had seen a sign "Brasserie"

near the supermarket,

but in this case this "Brasserie"

is a brewer.

基本的に近くには

良さそうなレストランは全くなかった。

よく行くスーパーの近くに

「ブラッスリー」という看板が

出ていたので

徒歩で見に行くと、

いわゆる「飲み屋」であった。

Today's dessert is Paris-Breast again,

as we didn't go to our favourite bakery.

今日のデザートは

パリ・ブレスト。

お気に入りのベーカリーには

行かなかったからだ。

Summer Holiday in France 2023 Day 11

     

In the morning,

we went to a shopping complex

near Cherbourg which

my husband had been to last week.

午前中は

夫が先週行った

シェルブール近くの

ショッピングセンターに行った。

This is to buy some food for Miffy,

and I also wanted to go to 

a fabric shop beside the pet shop.

目的は、

ミッフィー用に肝臓にいいフードを

買うことと、

ペットショップの隣にある

布地の店に行くことだ。

Miffy sleeps a lot these days.

ミッフィーは1日の殆どを眠って過ごしている。

What we bought at the pet shop:

Food for liver from a bargain shelf.

In case Miffy doesn't like it,

we got just 3 cans.

ペットショップで買ったもの：

値引きされていた肝臓用フード。

ミッフィーが食べてくれないかも

しれないので

3缶だけ購入。

I dropped in the fabric shop.

The people are kind and friendly,

even though I don't speak French.

One of the staff talked to me,

using Google Translation😀

隣の布地の店に立ち寄った。

これはフランスのチェーン店だ。

フランス語ができない私にも

笑顔で親切なスタッフばかりで感動。

スタッフの1人が

スマホの翻訳機能を使って

話しかけてくれた😀

After that we visited E.Leclerc nearby.

It's a lovely hyper market.

I saw strange sushi products, though.

Sushi sandwich!

最後に、近くのハイパーマーケット

ルクレールに寄った。

大きくて色々なものがあって感動。

ただ、寿司サンドウィッチという

ヘンテコなものも見つけた。

We bought a few things for lunch

on our way home at a local supermarket

(such as tomatoes and octopus in olive oil).

帰宅途中で近くのスーパーに寄り、

昼食用のトマトやタコの

オリーブオイル漬けを買った。

After lunch, we drove to

the Tourist Information in Carteret,

as my husband wanted to

rent a bicycle.

昼食後はカルトゥレの

ツーリストインフォメーションに

車で出かけた。

夫が自転車を

レンタルしたかったのだ。

Initially he was planning to 

buy an electric bike in France

and bring it back to Ireland,

instead of renting one,

as bike rentals are so expensive here.

At the tourist office.

ツーリストインフォメーションにて。

最初夫は、自転車をレンタルせず、

電動アシスト自転車を

デカスロンで買って

アイルランドに持って帰るつもりだった。

However, he discovered that

it is cheaper to rent a bike here,

and buy an electric bike in Ireland.

しかし、自転車をレンタルして

アイルランドで電動自転車を

買った方が安くつくことに

気付いたのであった。

Unfortunately, the bikes were all rented out

for the day so he has to go back 

tomorrow morning.

残念ながらこの日は自転車は全部

レンタルされていて

明日の朝、もう1度借りに行く

ことになってしまった。

The strange world of vending machines

in Normandy:

A pizza vending machine and

a oyster vending machine!!

ノルマンディ地方の変な自販機：

ピザの自販機と

生牡蠣の自販機！

Today's dessert is Barnevillais,

as the Petit Normand was sold out.

今日のデザートは

バルヌヴィレイ。

美味しいプチ・ノルマンは

売り切れだった。

Summer Holiday in France 2023 Day 10

    

In the morning,

we went back to Briquebec again,

to go to the Monday market,

and to go to a yarn shop I had seen 

the previous day.

午前中は再びブリックベックに行った。

月曜のマーケットに行くのと、

前日に見た毛糸・布地の店に

行きたかったからだ。

I didn't buy anything in the yarn shop

(which is a lovely shop),

but my husband bought me

this linen blouse

at the market.

毛糸の店では何も買わなかったが

（とても可愛い店であったが）

夫がマーケットで

リネンのブラウスを買ってくれた。

After lunch

we went for a walk to 

a nearby commune called 

Saint-Jean-de-la-Rivière.

It was hot and tiring.

昼食後、

近くのコミューンである

サン・ジャン・ドゥ・ラ・リヴィエール

まで歩いた。

暑かったし疲れた。

For dinner,

we had the most disgusting meal

we ever had in France--

frozen humbergur

cooked with microwave!!

夕食には

フランスで食べた食事で

1番最悪なものを食べた。

電子レンジでチンする

ハンバーガー！

Today's dessert is Paris-Brest again,

as the Boulanger that sells the Petit Normand

Is closed on Monday.

今日のデザートは

再びパリ・ブレスト。

美味しいプチ・ノルマンを

売っているケーキ屋さんは

月曜が定休日だからだ。
