Summer Holiday in France 2023 Day 18

    

On the morning of our check out,

my husband got up earlier to

return the rental bike 

and bring the car back from

the public charger point.

宿をチェックアウトする日の朝、

夫は早く起きて

レンタル自転車を返しに行き、

そして市役所の駐車場で

充電している車を

運転して帰ってきた。

After breakfast

we spent a lot of time cleaning the house.

朝食後は

宿の掃除に忙しく過ごした。

We safely checked out the house.

Our first stop was a biscuit shop

in Sortosville to buy

some souvenirs.

無事にチェックアウトをした後、

最初に行ったのはお土産を

買うためにソルトスヴィルにある

ビスケットショップであった。

Then we went to

Hypermarket Auchan

to buy more staff for us and 

for souvenirs.　

My husband bought

bottles of wine,

and I bought more biscuits.

 それから

ハイパーマーケットの

アウシャンに行き、

他のものも色々購入した。

夫は何本ものワインを買い込み、

私はビスケットを買い込んだ。

Had a late picnic lunch

in the light rain,

and drove towards Cherbourg.

宿で用意したサンドウィッチを

屋外で食べ（雨で寒かった）、

それからシェルブールに向かった。

There was a lot of roadworks

in Cherbourg so driving around

was a little bit difficult.

シェルブールの街中は

道路工事が多くて

運転するのが少し大変だった。

We finally find a charger parking,

and my husband went Geocaching

and I went sightseeing.

なんとか充電できる駐車場を見つけ、

夫はジオキャッシングをし、

私は観光をした。

The theatre.

I remember we were

sitting in front of this

with the dogs

on our previous visit.

目を引く劇場。

前回シェルブールに来た時、

ここの前で

犬達と座っていたことを

はっきりと覚えている。

I also remember

we climbed the top of

the building on the hill

with the dogs.

それから、

この丘のてっぺんにある

建物に

犬達と一緒に登った

ことも覚えている。

After getting stuck in the rush hour traffic,

we finally arrived at the port,

and boarded on the ferry.

ラッシュアワーの渋滞に

巻き込まれ、

一時はどうなるかと思ったが、

無事に港に到着し

フェリーに乗った。

The sea journey was very rough!!

Even though I had taken a

sea sickness tablet,

it wasn't completely comfortable.

嵐のせいで船はとても揺れた。

酔い止めを飲んでいたが

少し酔ってしまった。

　I made an appointment for

the manicure at the spa on the ferry,

but it was cancelled due to the rough weather.

行きの船内でも行った

ビューティサロンで

ネイルの予約を入れたのだが、

船が揺れるので

危ないということで

キャンセルになってしまった。

Arrived in Rosslare on time,

had lunch at one of the service stations,

and went back to the house

which we can't share with any dog now.

ロスレア港に時刻通りにつき、

途中のSAで昼食を取り、

そして家に戻った。

もう犬達はいない家だ。

I saw a rainbow when we 

went shopping for food.

帰宅後スーパーに行った時

虹を見た。

Since Shiro died, I always think of Shiro 

as a cloud in the blue sky.

Now, I think of Miffy as the sun in the sky.

I don't know why.

シローが旅立って以来、

私はいつもシローは青い空に浮かぶ

白い雲のように思っている。

ミッフィーは何故か、

空に輝く太陽のようだ。

I have a big void in my heart 

since Miffy's gone.

However, it doesn't feel right 

to get another dog only to fill the void.

At the moment, I should 

properly grieve for Shiro and Miffy, 

and at the same time, 

concentrate on doing things I couldn't do 

while caring for aging dogs.

And when the opportunity arises, 

I will grab it and start living with another dog.

犬がいなくなって

心に穴が空いたようだ。

ただ、その穴を埋めるためだけに

また犬を飼い始めたら、

新しい犬も可哀想だ。

今はシローとミッフィーのことを心に抱き、

老犬介護のためにできなかったことを

やろうと思う。

そして、再び犬を飼い始める

チャンスが訪れたら

その時は躊躇せずに飼おうと思う。

They did more to us than

I did to them.

Summer Holiday in France 2023 Day 17

   

I was awaken by the sound of

rain and strong winds this morning.

The storms affecting the East Coast of

Canada and America

may have started affect here, too.

朝は暴風雨の音で目覚めた。

カナダとアメリカの東海岸で

猛威を奮っている

ハリケーンの影響かもしれない。

After breakfast, we drove to

Barneville beach to see the big waves.

It was dramatic enough

as the tide was quite high.

朝食後、バルヌヴィルに行って、

強風による波を見た。

潮も高かったので

なかなかすごかった。

Then we went to Portbail again

to see the high tide.

それから、またまた

ポールバイユまで行き

高潮を見た。

With a little chapel replica at the gate

(with my finger in the photo).

After lunch, I was dragged to Carteret again

for my husband's Geocaching.

昼食後は夫のジオキャッシング

に付き合わされ、

カルトゥレでウォーキング。

The weather was better than the forecast (again).

天気予報よりもいい天気で良かった。

After we came back,

my husband went out again before dinner

to do more Geocaching,

while I was resting.

帰宅後私が休息中、

夫は再びジオキャッシングに出かけた。

For dinner,

we went to La Potinière

on the Carteret beach.

夕食にはカルトゥレの浜辺にある

レストランLa Potinièreへ行った。

We are going back to Dublin tomorrow.

The weather forecast doesn't look great,

and as a result of that,

the ferry departure time has changed

and we are leaving 1 hour earlier.

明日ダブリンに帰る。

ただ、天気予報があまり良くなくて

強風になりそうだ。

そのせいでフェリーの

出航時間が1時間早くなった。

I can't believe we're going back

without you, Miffy....

Summer Holiday in France 2023 Day 16

  

I was awaken by the sound of

rain and thunders this morning.

We had been very lucky with the weather

on this holiday,

but today is the first rainy day.

朝は雨と雷の音で目覚めた。

今回の旅行ではお天気には

とても恵まれていたので

初めての雨だ。

We decided to drive south to Granville,

one of the biggest towns in Manche,

as we thought there would be things to do

on a rainy day.

この日は南に下ってグランヴィルに

行くことにした。

大きな街なので

雨でもすることがあると考えたのだ。

That was the best decision for the day.

Not only Granville was a great city

(contrary to what The Rough Guide says),

the weather turned out to be 

sunny, hot and beautiful.

結局この選択は大正解だった。

ガイドブックでは

「行く価値のない場所」とか

書かれていたが、

都会で見るべきものもたくさんあった。

お天気も天気予報が大外れし、

晴れて暑かった。

Had lunch at La Bolée Normande.

La Bolée Normandeでランチ。

Saw a lovely custom-made clothes shop.

Looks like a shop for "Cos Play"

素敵な手作りの洋服の店があった。

コスプレ用の店のようだ。

We had a coffee break after

walking around the "Higher Town"

丘の上を歩き回って疲れたので

ティーブレイク。

I had a cake called "Floco" 

and a rooibos tea.

私は「フロコ」というケーキ

とルイボス茶を頂いた。

I found this comic book by

a French author

at a flea market.

I bought it as it has "Shiro"

in the title.

Also it might help me to study French

(I've been studying French with Duolingo

everyday but not effectively😅).

日曜のマーケットで

こんな漫画本を見つけた。

作者はフランス人のようだ。

「Shiro」という文字に

目が引かれて買ってしまった。

今年に入って毎日

デュオリンゴでフランス語を

勉強しているので

この本が役に立つかも。

On the way home,

we drove to Barneville beach

as my husband wanted look for

his swimming togs and towel

which he had lost on Saturday morning.

He left them at the beach,

and went on a 5km run.

When he came back,

they were gone.

They are still gone!!

帰宅途中にバルヌヴィルの

海岸に寄った。

前日にこの海岸で

夫は海水パンツとタオルを

紛失していたので、

探したいと言うからだ。

浜辺に置いておいて

5kmのジョギングをして

戻ったらなくなっていたそうだ。

盗まれたんだろうね。

やっぱりなかったよ。

Summer Holiday in France 2023 Day 15

 

1st day with no dog in our family

in 16 and a half years.

1st day with no animal in our family

in probably 26 years.

(We always had guinea pigs

or a rabbit.)

16年半で犬が家族ではない

最初の朝を迎えた。

おそらく動物が家族にいないのは

26年ぶりくらいかもしれない。

（私たちは犬の前にモルモットや

うさぎを飼っていた。）

First we drove to the vet in Bricquebec 

to sign some documents

and pay for Miffy's cremation.

We will collect Miffy

when she's ready.

まず、ブリットベックの獣医に行き、

色々な書類に署名をし、

ミッフィーを火葬してもらう

ための手続きと費用の支払いをした。

遺灰は後日

私たちが再びフランスに

迎えに来るつもりだ。

Then we drove on to Valognes,

a town known as the "Versailles of Normandy" 

for its aristocratic mansions and palaces

その後、「ノルマンディーのベルサイユ」

という異名を持つヴァローニュ

という街に行った。

As the nickname suggests,

there are a lot of historical buildings.

名前の通り、

貴族や歴史に関連した

建物ば多くあった。

I only took this photo, though--

the court house.

でも、写真を撮ったのは

１枚だけ--裁判所。

Had lunch at Le Versailles Normand.

The owner of the restaurant

has a little corgi called "Oscar".

He was very friendly.

レストランで昼食を取った。

レストランには「オスカー君」

というマスコット犬がいて癒された。

After that, my husband went on

the rental bike to do Geocaching.

その後、夫は再び自転車で

ジオキャッシングに出かけた。

I had no Miffy to look after,

but I stayed in.

ミッフィーはもういないが、

私は宿に残った。

We were so lucky to have Miffy.

She was a super spitz.

I'm sorry, Miffy, we couldn't detect

your health problem early.

You were putting up a

brave face for us.

I miss you.

ミッフィーが我が家に来てくれて

私たちは本当に幸運であった。

病気を早く見つけてあげられなくて

本当にごめんね。

私たちには身体の不調を隠して

普通に接してくれてたんだね。

大好きだよ、ミッフィー。

Summer Holiday in France 2023 Day 14

The weather was incredibly good.

Sunny and hot.

We went to Portbail without Miffy.

I wanted to take photos of the church

and its reflection in the water.

ミッフィーをお留守番させ、

ポールバイユまで出掛けた。

教会が水に反射している

写真を撮りたかったからだ。

There is another church.

教会がもう1つある。

The monument for 

the Second World War's

bombings.

第二次大戦で受けた爆撃

の記念碑。

There was a shop which sells

"Koi Nobori".

なぜか鯉のぼりを

売っている店があった。

After lunch,

my husband went out with the bike

to do Geocaching.

I stayed in, looking after Miffy

and doing Pilates.

帰宅後、昼食を取り、

夫は例によって自転車で

ジオキャッシングをし、

私は宿に残って

ミッフィーの世話と

ピラティスをした。

We were scheduled to visit

the vet again, because

they wanted to check how Miffy was doing.

午後は獣医に行くことになっていた。

ミッフィーの様子を報告するためだ。

I wasn't quite ready to let her go.
I wanted to take her back to Ireland

私はまだ安楽死させたくなかった。

アイルランドに連れて帰りたかった。

We told the male vet of our decision,

and left the vet.

But Miffy looked very weak.

So I realised this might be a mistake.

そのことを獣医に告げ、

家路についたが

ミッフィーはとても弱々しかった。

私は間違っているのではないかと

考え始めた。

My husband went back to the vet

to tell him we had decided 

to let her go after the weekend.

夫が獣医に戻り

週末明けに

ミッフィーを安楽死させる

決意をしたことを告げに行った。

While I was waiting,

I noticed Miffy was unconscious in the buggy.

夫を待っている間、

私はミッフィーの意識が

ないことに気づいた。

We knew she wouldn't wake up.

We didn't have to make the decision.

She made that decision for us.

What a kind dog....

ミッフィーの意識が

戻らないことは明らかだった。

決意を渋っている私たちに

ミッフィーの方から決めてくれたのだ。

優しい、優しい、ミッフィー。

Good Bye Miffy

 
Miffy has decided to move on from France

to heaven, instead of to Ireland.

ミッフィーはフランスから

虹の橋を渡ってしまった。

I love you.

You were such a great dog, Miffy.

I can't believe I can't see you again.

Summer Holiday in France 2023 Day 13

  

Miffy has stopped eating more or less.

She was eating mashed sweet potatoes,

but she now refuses that as well.

At night, she spends a lot of time

barking & crying.

ミッフィーはほとんど

物を食べないようになってしまった。

蒸して潰した

さつまいもだけは

喜んで食べてくれていたのに。

夜も何度も何度も

泣くのでその度に夫と二人で

様子を見に行っている。

We now think she may not

survive until we arrive home.

We looked into going back to Ireland earlier,

but all the pet friendly cabins are booked out

until our departure date.

このままではミッフィーは

アイルランドに戻るまでに

虹の橋を渡ってしまうかもしれない、

という残酷な現実に直面している。

フェリーのスケジュールをチェックし、

早めにアイルランドに戻ることも

検討してみたが、

ペットOKの客室は全部予約が入っている。

We brought her to our local vet again.

This time a lovely kind female vet

who speaks excellent English saw Miffy.

地元の獣医に

ミッフィーを再び連れて行った。

英語の上手な優しい女医さんが

ミッフィーを診察してくれた。

Miffy got 3 injections💉:

cortisone, antibiotics, and 

one for stopping nausea.

The vet told us we have to

make up our mind

if Miffy doesn't eat for the

next 24 hours.

ミッフィーは注射💉を三本してもらった。

痛み止め、抗生物質、そして吐き気止め。

そして、この後24時間で

ミッフィーの食欲が戻らなければ、

安楽死を考えるように言われた。

She was fine 2 weeks ago 

when we left Ireland.

Eating well, and walking well....

2週間前に

アイルランドを出発した時は

あんなに元気だったのに。

食欲旺盛で、散歩も行ってたし...。

I let my husband cycle around

to do Geocaching after the vet visit.

He had rented a bike for this purpose,

and I didn't mind staying in with Miffy.

獣医から帰った後は、

夫はレンタルした自転車で

ジオキャッシングに出かけた。

私は宿にミッフィーと残った。

For lunch,

we went out for a picnic with Miffy.

My husband had bought

2 sandwiches at the bakery.

昼食には夫がベーカリーで

買ったサンドウィッチを持って

ミッフィーを連れて

ピクニックに出かけた。

 

We could see Jersey from

the picnic area.

ピクニックの場所からは

海の向こうのジャージー島が見える。

Miffy drinking water

水を飲むミッフィー。

When we arrived home, the vet in Dublin

called my husband about Miffy.

She's very kind and considerate.

帰宅したら

ダブリンの獣医から夫宛に

ミッフィーのことで電話があった。

非常に思いやりのある獣医で

ありがたい。

Then my husband went out to 

have a hair cut.

I stayed in.

昼食後、

夫は髪を切りに行き、

私は宿に残った。

For dinner,

we went to Terminus.

Initially we were thinking of

taking away the food with us,

but in the end

we ate there.

夕食には

テルミナスという

フードコートのような

ところに行った。

お持ち帰りにするつもりだったが、

結局そこで食べた。

This beeps when the food is ready.

オーダーした食べ物ができると

音がする。

Today's dessert is Petit Normand.

It was very very nice.

今日のデザートはプチ・ノルマン。

とってもとってもおいしかった。

At the sunset.

サンセットの光を浴びて。

There was a cat in our garden.

It looked really like Miffy 

in the distance.

I was briefly excited as

I thought Miffy was sitting up happily.

庭に見慣れない猫がいた。

遠くから見ると

ミッフィーみたいでびっくり。

最初見た時、

「ミッフィーが元気になった！」と

一瞬喜んでしまった。
